OLD RECTORY HOTEL - RANKED 11th best hotel in the UK

Eight hotels in Devon and Cornwall have made it into the top 25 UK hotels voted for by world travellers. The information was gathered by the travel company TripAdvisor for its annual awards.

The top British hotel was Rudding Park near Harrogate, Yorkshire, with travellers praising its “faultless service”.

TripAdvisor said its annual awards were based on the opinions of millions of real travellers.

The other South West hotels in the top 25 were the Trelaske Hotel, Looe, Cornwall (10), the Old Rectory Hotel, Martinhoe, Devon (11), Tremarne Hotel, Mevagissey, Cornwall (15), Yeoldon House Hotel, Bideford, Devon (16), Bowling Green Hotel, Plymouth (20) and Primrose Valley Hotel, St Ives, Cornwall (25).

Hotel to be featured in Vogue Magazine

We were thrilled to have been approached by Vogue Magazine to appear in their forthcoming “Coast to Coast” feature which is all about quality hotels and places to stay on the British Coast.

The Old Rectory Hotel will be the only hotel represented in North Devon & Exmoor in this feature.

Unfortunatley, no modelling contracts were offered - their loss….!

Our updated Mission Statement

The Old Rectory Hotel is a place where the genuine care and comfort of our guests is our highest mission.

We strive for perfection and equally we aim to offer our guests ‘a home away from home’ - a place where you can enjoy the best food and drinks and warmest service in relaxed, civilised and elegant surroundings.

The experience should be uplifting and one that we hope you will repeat time and time again.

The Old Rectory Hotel experience enlivens the senses, instills well-being, and fulfills even the unexpressed wishes and needs of our guests.

Hotel Refurbishment - our vision

We closed for the winter on November 2nd and two days later, we had builders, plumbers and electricians crawling all over the building, starting phase 2 of the hotel refurbishment. Since arriving in North Devon, we have built up a great team of local tradesmen who are now working here for the second year running!

Our aim is for The Old Rectory Hotel to become recognised as the best Boutique Country House Hotel in Exmoor and, judging by customer feedback on Tripadvisor.com, we are well on the way to achieving this. Our vision for The Old Rectory Hotel is to provide the very best of a country house hotel with a modern and stylish twist. All our rooms will be refurbished for next season and all will have new bathrooms, and top end fabrics and wallpapers from designers such as Jane Churchill, Nina Campbell and Colefax & Fowler.

As always with refurbishing an historic building, we have uncovered a lot of problem areas we were not aware of and have spent a large part of our contingency budget! However, we have new plumbing and wiring in many areas of the hotel and we are laying down the foundations for the next few years in the life of this lovely old historic building.
