This was our second visit to The Old Rectory and we came away just as rested, relaxed and refreshed as we did the first time. Owners Huw and Sam's style is more akin to that of a friendly house party...

Allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Huw Rees and Sam Prosser and we own and run The Old Rectory Hotel. Corporate escapees, we took to the hills 3 years ago to follow our dream and open the kind of hotel where we and our friends would like to stay. Great hospitality, good food and wine are our passion and so we hope that you will come and see us soon.
In our previous lives, Huw was a surveyor and Sam headed up business sales for a major car rental company. Big fans of Georgian architecture, we swapped a Georgian Town House and Corporate Life in Bristol for a Georgian Rectory on Exmoor where we could build the kind of civilised place to stay that we had dreamed of.
We live in an isolated but very strong and supportive rural community and, as a business, we are committed to supporting the local economy by buying locally and employing local people - most of them are from local farming families. One of our team members is from a family who has farmed in Martinhoe for over 200 years, which must be some kind of record!
