Huw Rees and Sam Prosser
Allow us to introduce ourselves; We are Huw & Sam Rees-Prosser and we own and run The Old Rectory Hotel. Corporate escapees, we took to the hills quite a few years ago to follow our dream and open the kind of hotel where we and our friends would like to stay.
Great, friendly hospitality and good food & wine are our passion and we hope that you will come and see us and enjoy all that we and this lovely, peaceful corner of the Exmoor Coast have to offer.
The dream
In our previous lives, Huw was a surveyor and Sam headed up business sales for a major car rental company. Big fans of Georgian architecture, we swapped a Georgian town house and corporate life in Bristol for a Georgian rectory on Exmoor where we could build the kind of civilised place to stay that we had dreamed of.
A strong community
We live in an isolated but very strong and supportive rural community. As a business, we are committed to supporting the local economy by buying locally and employing local people, wherever possible – most of our staff are from local farming families.
We pride ourselves on being good ethical employers. We always pay the living wage as an absolute minimum to every single member of our team. In fact, one of our team members has worked at The Old Rectory for 22 years.
