Some people collect wine, some people use wine to impress or even intimidate, some people judge wine purely by price and, most heinous of all, some people put wine on a pedestal, like fine art, to be revered and obsessed over.
Here at The Old Rectory, we offer fabulous tasting, exciting and even challenging wines that deserve to be drunk with friends, laughter and platefuls of excellent food.
We want our customers to drink lovely wines at a range of sensible prices, allowing them to experiment and have fun, rather than offer a jaded and lazy selection of famous ‘names’ at exorbitant tariffs. We take great pride and put a lot of effort into finding the right wines for our wine list and we really want you to reap the benefits of this policy – we don’t want to gather dusty bottles in the cellar!
Our list ranges from exotic sherries and evocative rosés, through hand-crafted, ‘artisan’ white Bordeaux and maverick, roller-coaster Chilean reds to a delightful selection of digestifs, whilst not forgetting the ‘dainty morsels’ in our bin end list.
We want you to enjoy your visit to The Old Rectory Hotel so that it becomes a place that you will want to return to again and again. Our wine list is just one small part of your experience here but we hope that it helps to make your stay a memorable one.
In 2012, we won the Small Hotels and Inns Category of the Conde Nast Johansens & Champagne Taittinger Wine List Awards.
