Please note that, during the pandemic, our usual cancellation policy has been amended to address the uncertainty and worry of booking a stay with us due to Covid-19. If you are unable to travel because the area in which you live is subject to a local lockdown and you are unable to travel OR our local area is in lockdown and you are unable to travel to Devon, your booking can be cancelled or transferred without penalty. Please note that outside the scope of these conditions, our usual cancellation policy will apply.
At present, this applies to stays due to take place prior to 2nd November 2020.
Our Cancellation Policy
Due to the location and style of The Old Rectory, when a room booking is confirmed we make a firm commitment to you our guest to hold that room for you. As most of our guests are staying with us on holiday, reservations are often made well in advance. Reletting cancelled accommodation may be difficult at short notice and, for us as a small business, such losses of revenue can be damaging. Please note that the cancellation charges do not apply if the booking has been cancelled in accordance with our Covid Cancellation policy
When booking direct with us we request a non-refundable deposit of £100; this will secure your reservation.
15+ days before arrival date The deposit will be retained
8 – 14 days before arrival date The cost of the first night’s stay will be charged
7 days or less before arrival date The full balance of your stay will be charged.
Any charges will be made to the credit or debit card used to guarantee your booking. If we are able to resell your stay at short notice, charges will be refunded or if we are able to resell part of your stay, you will be refunded the cost of the days we have been able to resell. We will always try to resell any cancelled rooms to try to minimise cancellation charges to you. If we are able to resell your room in whole or in part, we will reimburse you accordingly.
We strongly advise you to ensure that you have adequate travel insurance in place to cover any unforeseen eventualities.

Our rates include VAT at the prevailing rate. The government has reduced the VAT we pay on certain things we provide to our guests to 5% for a six month period until January 2021. The Government website advises that this reduction has been facilitated to support and help businesses in the hospitality sector – the sector which has been most badly affected in the pandemic.
Due to Covid The Old Rectory has lost significant income and yet our fixed costs on the whole have remained the same. We have taken substantial additional loans to keep the business afloat during this terrible time
For these reasons, and on the advice of our bank and our accountants, we see this VAT reduction as a very generous lifeline to help our financial position. In order to protect the future of The Old Rectory, we have decided that we are unable to pass on the reduction to our customers.
We have not increased our charges but this initiative means that our VAT Bill will be smaller than normal for the next few months to help us recover a small portion of our losses
Check in is from 14.00hrs. If you will be arriving later than 6pm, please contact us to confirm your arrival time and dinner reservation.
Check out is by 11.00hrs on the day of departure.
Due to COvid-19, our minimum length of stay is 2 nights
The hotel is totally non smoking. Guests are welcome to smoke outside in the garden away from the building.
We welcome children from 14 years old upwards.
Our dinner, bed and breakfast rate includes four courses from our a la carte dinner menu and breakfast. The dining room is not open at lunchtime.
We regret that we do not allow pets to stay in our hotel.
In the unlikely event of replacement, cleaning or repair being required to any item(s) belonging to the hotel, or the fabric of the hotel itself, because of wilful damage, or damage incurred because reasonable precautions have not been taken, we reserve the right to reclaim all and any costs incurred, including loss of business, by charging the credit card given to secure the booking, without prior consent being required.the tariff you originally booked.
